Meaty Baked Macaroni

Combining pasta, meat, and cheese in a tasty and creamy tomato sauce and serving it with slices of garlic bread plus green salad, your family will surely love this new twist to familiar recipe of baked macaroni. The recipe only takes an hour to make but it would taste as if you have cooking it for hours!

Things to Prepare:

1 pound ground beef

½ cup chopped onion

1-16 oz jar spaghetti sauce of any flavor

1-4 oz can drained mushroom pieces

6 oz elbow macaroni

1 cup sour cream

4 oz sliced provolone cheese

4 oz shredded mozzarella cheese

Non stick cooking spray

Tin foil


1.       Cook and stir the meat in a frying pan over medium heat until brown then seive off the excess fats.

2.       Add the chopped onions to the pan and cook for the meat for an additional 2 minutes before adding the spaghetti sauce and mushrooms. After adding, simmer it with cover for about 5 minutes. While waiting, cook the pasta according to instructions on its package then drain.

3.       Preheat your oven to 350degF and spray your baking dish with the non stick cooking spray. Place half of the macaroni on the bottom of the baking dish then pour half of the sauce on top of the pasta and then half of the sour cream. Put slices of the provolone cheese on top of the sour cream.

4.       Arrange the rest of the pasta, sauce, sour cream as Step 3 then top off with the shredded mozzarella. Cover the dish loosely with tin foil then bake for about 25 minutes. After, take the cover and bake for additional 5 minutes.

The recipe makes 6 servings.

Some Tips and Warnings:

  • You can spray your tin foil with the non stick cooking spray to keep the cheese from sticking to the foil.
  • You can substitute ricotta or cottage cheese for the sour cream if you want.
